Orleans, otherwise known as the West Coast Firebirds, had one guy in particular who has a chance to have a very good pro career, and two East Coast guys, to boot.
Kolten Wong, 2B Hawaii
Left-handed Brandon Phillips – solid to plus average hitter, solid average power, plus runner, plus defender, solid average arm, great hands, strong forearms, good athletic actions, hard-nosed ballplayer. Potential everyday big league second baseman with LHH pop.
Jason Esposito, SS, Vanderbilt
Solid average to above average contact hitter, solid average power, average power production potential. Average runner to average minus runner, average defender, tall and rangy, might be better at third base, potential Casey Blake type.
Marcus Stroman, RHP, Duke
2012 draft prospect, easily best arm speed in 2010 Cape League. FB 92-94 with heavy life, room for a power slider there as well.
Ryan Carpenter, LHP, Gonzaga
Big, broad shoulders, workhorse type. FB 87-91, slow CB 76, slurve 81-82 lacked shape in this look. Change-up 77-78. Long, sweeping arm action, will need to trim up delivery in coming years and watch body. Can be much better than in this look.
Joe Loftus, RHP-OF, Vanderbilt
Rare look as pitcher. Mid 3/4 slot, arm speed comes right across the rubber, healthy arm action, can get a bit more downhill, pro right-handed frame, profiles as bullpen help.
Preston Tucker, 1B, Floria
Numbers didn’t show, but raw LHH power was out in force around 3 PM. Really battled himself in game at-bats.
Mitchell Lambson, LHP, Arizona State
Lots of people love his change-up and believe he’s a pitch-ability type with plus command of 85-87 velocity.
