Brewster is the first stop on our covering the Cape tour. We’ll have videos as we progress during the season, but the goal of these stories is to identify the better players we saw in person and to provide a synopsis of each player. There is no order, just how they came up as I wrote up my cards.
Cohl Walla, OF, Texas
Athletic frame and projectable body, bat is the best tool.
Kirk Singer, SS, Long Beach State
Talented defender with solid arm, solid average runner, needs to shorten wood swing but can put the ball in play.
Drew Martinez, OF, Memphis
Switch-hitter, plus runner, below-average arm, average bat, minus power, fair defender.
Andy Burns, SS, Kentucky
Loose and easy arm strength, action and accuracy, average to slightly above-average runner, limited raw power, handsy contact hitter. Rangy body type, glides left and right. Very solid all-around ballplayer.
Austin Lubinsky, RHP, Minnesota
Big Midwestern workhorse ox, 87-90 with room for a little bit more in there. Slow CB. Midwest boys sometimes come a little slower as pros, but that makes them sleepers.
Anthony Ranuado, RHP, LSU (Boston Red Sox)
FB 91-94, average 92, CB average 79, lacked change-up, lacked consistent balance and coordination, did not stay in mechanics very well or for very long. Grab a ticket for the bullpen.
Chris Ellison, OF, Oklahoma
Solid arm, solid average raw power with lift, covers OF ground well, average to high side of average runner, showed bat speed, used whole field, struggled to pick up curveballs a few times, tall and rangy pro body.
Andrew Gagnon, RHP, Long Beach State
Did Not See on the Cape, but he’s close to us, so we’ll have a look in the Spring.
